OVERVIEW

More specifically, Ruby is a scripting language designed for front- and back-end web development, as well as other similar applications. It's a robust, dynamically typed, object-oriented language, with high-level syntax that makes programming with it feel almost like coding in English.

GET STARTED

To verify the installation, follow the below instructions

Step 1. Connect to SSH:

1. Open the Amazon EC2 console at https://console.aws.amazon.com/ec2/.

2. In the navigation pane, choose Instances.

3. Select the instance and choose Connect.

4. Choose SSH Client

5. Copy the SSH command and paste it into the terminal.

ssh ec2-user@publicIP -i [Path of key pair file]

If it shows an access denied message run the following command, then run the above command again to connect via ssh.

chmod 400 [Path of key pair file]

Once launched in the Amazon EC2 Service, please connect to the instance via an SSH client using the ec2-user with the key pair associated at launch. Once connected as the ec2-user user, you will be able to sudo to the root user .

Step 2. Verify the installation

Follow the steps to verify the Ruby installation

1. When you log in with ssh

2. Type the below command to check version

ruby -v

3. You will see the responses as below. shown

How to use ruby language for example:

1. After connecting with ssh write the below command:

sudo vi test.rb    

(The vi editor is a screen editor which is available on almost all Unix systems.)

2. After entering in test.rb file copy the below code: (Use the Esc+i key to insert the code in the file.)

         #!/usr/bin/env ruby
         puts "Hello  world!"

3. Press the Esc+ shift + colon key(:) to exit from that file. Command: wq Hit the enter key.

4. To check the code that is inside the file use the below command:

sudo cat test.rb

5. Now you will be placed back at the administrator command line prompt.

6. Give permission to the test.rb file uses the below command:

sudo chmod +x test.rb

(The +x parameter is used to add the x permission which is the symbol for the execute permission.)

7. After giving permission run the below command:

./test.rb

8. If you get the Hello world! in output then your ruby is working properly.

To monitor and assess application functions:-

a. Navigate to your Amazon EC2 console and verify that you're in the correct region.

b. Choose Instances and select your launched instance.

c. Select the server to display your metadata page and choose the Status checks tab at the bottom of the page to review if your status checks passed or failed.
